About Beavers

What Beavers is all about

Beaver Scouts is where scouting begins. Every Friday evening our Beavers meet at the Annamoe Centre for an hour of games, making things, stories and getting outside.

In Scouting Ireland, the Beavers in a group make up a colony, and they work together in small teams called lodges. Beavers learn to take turns, share ideas and try new things, with plenty of encouragement from their leaders.

At meetings, Beavers play team games and learn scouting skills like hiking, camping, knots, first aid, cooking and more.

Your leaders

All our leaders are trained volunteers, Garda vetted and supported by Scouting Ireland.

What to wear

Comfortable clothes that can get messy, sensible shoes and a rain jacket. We go outside whenever we can.

The Beavers uniform is a jumper and our group's Roundwood necker. You can buy both from The Scout Shop at thescoutshop.ie.

Every Friday

A typical evening

Beavers meet every Friday during school terms, 6.30pm – 7.30pm, at the Annamoe Centre. Now and then we meet at the weekend instead, for a hike or a day activity. No two weeks are the same, but most Friday evenings go something like this:

  1. 1Arrive, say hello and settle into a welcome game.
  2. 2The main activity or challenge for the week, often outdoors.
  3. 3Gather together to finish up before home time.
Growing up through scouting

Moving up

Each section is designed for its age group. As young people grow, they move up to the next section, taking their skills and friendships with them.
